The AFCON second round of group stage games ended on Sunday, 21st January 2024. Hence, the third and final round began yesterday, and it continues today
The second round of group-stage games has ensured that the shockers and dramas that characterized the first round weren’t halted, but stimulated and incited. This round began with the hosts losing to Nigeria to drop down to 3rd on the Group A table.
The next big moment was the 2-2 draw between Egypt and Ghana, a game that saw Egypt’s star man, Mo’ Salah, get injured.
Alongside Cape Verde, Senegal became the only team to win two games so far, defeating Cameroon 3-1 to secure their place in the last 16. Algeria were able to grab one point from the game against Burkina Faso at stoppage time to keep their hopes of qualification alive.
Tunisia and Mali played out a 1-1 draw, while South Africa thrashed Namibia 4-0, to intensify the competition in the group. Both games in Group F ended in a draw. First off, DR Congo held Morocco to a 1-1 draw, then Patson Daka of Zambia ensured Tanzania could only take one point away from the game.
