The crime of footballers being untruthful about their age, is not new to the football world, as it has happened more than once in the past. However, in the case of Guélor Kanga Kaku, he is not only being accused of falsifying his age but also faking his identity. What’s Guelor Age?
According to Africa Top Sports, the attacking midfielder for the Serbian club, Red Star, could find himself atoning for a serious crime over the concerns of his age, as the publication claimed he was 5 years older than his age.
Also, a separate development from the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Football Federation (FECOFA) claimed he was in use of a false identity and name and was ineligible to play football. It was no surprise when the CAF (Confederation of African Football) summoned Guélor for questioning.
Guelor’s False Age and Identity
This claim came to light in April 2021, when the FECOFA filed a complaint to the CAF against the fabrication of Guélor’s identity. They stated that his birth home was in DR Congo and he was born on October 8th, 1985, insinuating a 5-year gap between his real age and the age on his Gabonese birth certificate.

They added that his birth name was allegedly changed from Kiaku-Kiaku Kiangani to Guélor Kanga and insisted the Gabonese authorities had a major hand in this, by providing him with a citizenship, as well as a new falsified birth certificate.
During CAF’s investigation on the issue in May 2021, it was reported that his mother died in 1986, contradicting his registered date of birth which is September 1990. Further promoting an explanation for the conflicting information.
The claim, however, has been countered by the CAF who according to BBC Sport, informed that they “did not notice any irregularities in the eligibility of the player in question and his registration with CAF” and that the proof offered by FECOFA was not convincing enough. Letting the player off the hook and reassuring his eligibility until more profound evidence was found.
An important thing to note is, that if these allegations are true, Guélor and Gabon could face grave sanctions according to FIFA regulations for forgery of the player’s paperwork.
