Following five consecutive league defeats, Dutch giants Ajax managed to climb off the bottom of the Eredivisie standings with a convincing 2-0 victory over FC Volendam at home on Thursday.
This triumph, which marked only their second win of the season, was made possible by goals from Steven Bergwijn and Chuba Akpom in the second half. This victory gave Ajax a much-needed boost of confidence, and they are now in ninth place in the league table. The win also put them in good spirits ahead of their crucial game against Heerenveen on Sunday.

Prior to this win, Ajax’s last league victory had occurred on the opening day of the season, precisely on 12 August. With their new coach, John van ‘t Schip, taking charge this week after the dismissal of Maurice Steijn in October, this victory serves as a promising start under his leadership.
Fans Can Now Breathe
Ajax fans were delighted with the win, as they were hoping the team could regain the form they had shown before the start of the year. The victory also lifted the spirits of the team, who are now determined to continue their momentum.
Currently, Ajax has risen to the 15th position in the 18-team league, securing eight points. Despite having a game in hand, they still find themselves trailing 22 points behind the league leaders, PSV Eindhoven. Ajax’s chances of recovering and claiming the title are slim, but the team is determined to finish the season strong. They will look to capitalize on their remaining games and hope to at least secure a top-four finish.
Looking ahead, Ajax is set to host Heerenveen in their upcoming league match on Sunday. Subsequently, they will resume their Europa League campaign with a home fixture against Brighton on 9 November.
